Recommendation:
He has distinguished himself by courageous conduct in combat against the enemy on May 10. 1940, while being posted to a machine gun company belonging to the occupiers of air base Ypenburg during the attack on and partly capture thereof by the enemy. Despite several friendly positions being captured and several soldiers in his area withdrawing from the fighting, he held out courageously. Subsequently, despite several attempts by the enemy to capture his sector of the airfield and under friendly fire from artillery and infantry and bursting bombs from British bombers, he held out until well into the afternoon of May 11, under the command of an officer and an N.C.O., with a couple of heavy machine guns which dominated their sector of the airfield.
