The following press notice describes why Rohr received the Knight’s Cross…

“During the battle of Narvik Leutnant Rohr fought as part of a Ski-platoon consisting of hand-picked soldiers, who were consistently employed in the hotspots of the fighting. He had already fought as an Oberfeldwebel, holding important high ground for days against enemy forces who outnumbered him ten to one. Repeatedly encircled by the enemy, on each occasion he would succeed in breaking through to his Bataillon while inflicted bloody losses on the enemy. At Suanfjeldet and Bavaget, at a time when his forces were almost completely wiped out, he and his messengers crewed heavy weapons ahead of the frontline until a handful of reinforcements could finally be brought up. With these forces he immediately launched successful counterattacks which halted the enemy attacks in his sector.”
