For gallantry in action against the enemy in Germany on 13 April 1945. Private First Class Damone was a member of a squad whose mission was to secure a building which was believed to contain enemy riflemen. Upon entering the building they observed a machinegun nest and destroyed it. During the action another machinegun nest was observed behind another building. When the squad leader remarked that a bazooka might be effective in eliminating the second machinegun, Pfc. Damone unhesitatingly volunteered to cross an open street wich was covered by crossfire from enemy machineguns to secure a bazooka. While crossing the street on his hazardous mission, he was killed by the enemy machinegun fire. His heroic actions in the face of enemy fire and outstanding devotion are worthy of praise.
