"For piloting a B-24 Liberator over the oil fields of Ploesti, Romania on May 31, 1944. His plane was shot down after losing an engine on the way to the oil fields and becoming a straggler. He was shot in the head as the plane was going down, jumped ship and was captured. He was a POW in Bucharest Romania before being rescued by the 15th Air Force on August 31, 1944."
