Award of Silver Star. Under the provisions of Army regulations 600-45. As amended a Silver Star is awarded to Michael R. Gallinoto, 01043635, First Lieutenant, Infantry, Anti-Tank Company, 15th Infantry Regiment. For gallantry in action. On April 8, 1945, at 17.00 hours, near Schonau, Germany, First Lieutenant Gallinoto first reconnoitered the area his platoon was to attack, killing two capturing four enemy in the course of his reconnaissance. Well ahead of his men, with enemy bullets barely missing him. First Lieutenant Gallinoto then led his platoon forward against a force of seventy five enemy, killing twenty five, capturing twenty, wounding an unknown number of the enemy, and forcing the remainder to flee after a brisk fire fight. Residence, Bronx, New York.
