Company B, 760th Tank Battalion, 85th Infantry Division "Custer Division", U.S. Army
"For gallantry in action on 22 May 1944, in Italy. Although ordered to remain with his tank when its forward movement was blocked by a large shell crater, Corporal Miller, a tank gunner, upon observing that a reconnaissance party which had gone out from the tank to ascertain whether the engineers could repair the damaged road was pinned down by enemy machine gun and sniper fire, boldly drove the tank out into the open and rescued the endangered men. When the tank was then hit by a rocket projectile, he courageously withdrew the tank despite its damaged condition to a position where it could be safely repaired. His gallant acceptance of danger to rescue his comrades from a hazardous situation was in the best traditions of the Armed Forces. Entered the military service from Galien, Michigan."
Silver Star Medal (SSM)
