“Generalleutnant Ferdinand Schaal demonstrated skillful leadership and great devotion to duty during the hard and crisis-filled defensive fighting south of Sedan on the 15.05.1940. Here his Division came under attack by 4 fresh enemy divisions that included strong armoured forces, however (in no small part thanks to the decisive contributions by its’ commander) it was ultimately able to withstand the hostile onslaught.”
