    The following wartime excerpt describes why Bock was awarded the Knight’s Cross…

    “Hauptmann der Reserve Bock ruthlessly dedicated himself to the combat against the massed Russian combined arms assaults on the 27. and 28.02.1942. On his own initiative he rallied the already wavering Romanian elements on the left flank of the Regiment and thereby brought the enemy onslaught to a halt. By doing this he prevented the imminent rolling up of his Regiment’s frontline (and consequently that of the entire Division) to the south, and in this way a Russian breakthrough on the Crimean Peninsula at a critical point was prevented.”
