Awarded for his achievements during the summer 1942 fighting in the Rzhev salient. On the 12.08.1942 Barth and his Pak Zug stood ready for defense within the context of a tank battle at Peski. On this day Barth allowed a force of Soviet armour to approach to within 300 metres before ordering his Pak guns to open fire. 14 tanks were destroyed by gunfire, and a further one was personally destroyed by Barth with a Teller mine. Up until the 18.08.1942 a further 19 Soviet tanks were destroyed by Barth’s Zug while it was stationed near Tissely. Barth himself would be recognized appropriately for his actions during this time.
