Biography

Emil Bäuerle reached the rank of Hauptmann der Reserve. He was POW to the Soviets from March 11th, 1945 until December 18th, 1948.

Emil Bäuerle completed his labor service at the RAD in 1938.
In November he joined the 14th (PzAbw.) / I.R. 56 at.
In June 1941 he became a gun leader in his company.
1941 Pak platoon leader in the 16. / I.R. 56 and in the summer of 1942 an orderly officer on the staff of the renamed Jäger Regiment 56.
In February 1943, Bäuerle switched to the 2nd Battalion as adjutant and became chief of the 8th Company in the summer.
During the fighting near Zyrycze in March 1944, he succeeded in building a bridgehead on the other side of a long flood plain, which made it possible to relieve the own units enclosed in Kovel.
During these battles, Bäuerle is seriously wounded by an explosive rifle and taken to the hospital in Ulm a.d. Danube relocated.
There he received the Knight's Cross on May 4, 1944 for his missions
at Kovel.
After his wound has healed, he is transferred to the Hunter Replacement and Training Battalion 56.
In November he was assigned to a battalion leader course and then took over the leadership of the I. / Jäger Regiment 56 as a substitute.
On March 11, 1945 he was taken prisoner by the Soviets in Paulsdorf, which took him to a camp in the Donets region.
He was released on December 18, 1948 and was able to return home.
