Awarded for distinguishing himself in January 1945. In this time the 16. Panzer-Division made a plan to create a bridgehead at Morawica in order to provide an opportunity for trapped friendly elements to escape. Among these units was the Division’s armoured group, which was fighting its way westwards from Szezcno. Oberleutnant Beutler’s Kompanie, together with that of Werner’s Kompanie, formed the spearhead of this breakout effort. Ultimately the bridgehead was reached, and the bridgehead was held until the remnants of the 17. Panzer-Division and the Panzergrenadier-Regiment 79 had fought their way through to it. Beutler distinguished himself during the breakout to the bridgehead, the holding of the location and the later breakout of the XXIV. Panzer-Korps in its wandering pocket.
