He and his Gruppe particularly distinguished themselves in the time period 15.05.1940-22.07.1941 during the fight at the Rupel passage and in anti-shipping operations. The unit was credited with sinking 125000 GRT of supply ships and damaging another 70000 during this time. The Gruppe had also participated in the sinking of the British cruiser “HMS Gloucester” and the destroyer “Juno” around Crete.
