Awarded for his victorious combat on the 14.03.1944, near Vladimirovka. On this day Wegerer's SPW Zug was ordered to support a friendly German artillery unit that was engaged in infantry combat. En-route however he noticed that strong Soviet forces had captured Hill 84.3, located deep in the rear of his battlegroup. Acting on his own initiative, he determined that this group represented a more dangerous threat, and he counterattacked them with his halftracks. He managed to break into the hostile ranks and destroy them. After pursuing the survivors he then proceeded to fulfill his original mission.
