    Biography

    Walther Serini was born in Düsseldorf on January 12th 1894. He served as a war volunteer with the rank of Leutnant in the 9.Rheinisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 160 (from October 31st 1915) during the First World War. During the First World War he was decorated with the Prussian Iron Cross 2nd and 1st Class.
    After WW1 he stayed in the German Army and was promoted to Hauptmann on April 1st 1928. He became Oberstleutnant on October 1st 1937 and commanded the III.Bataillon/ Infanterie-Regiment 69 from May 1st 1938. To Serini, the Second World War started as Commander of the III.Battailon/Schützen-Regiment 1 within the 1.Panzer-Division on September 1st 1939.

    Between November 3rd 1939 and May 1942 he was Adjutant (IIa) with the General Staff of the 12.Armee. With this he took part in the invasion of France in May/June 1940. He was promoted to Oberst on October 1st 1940. The 12.Armee played a mayor roll in the invasion of Yugoslavia and Greece from April 1941

    Watlher Serini was placed with the General Staf of Heeresgruppe A on the Eastern Front from May 7th 1942. This function he kept until October 10th. From December 15th he commanded the Grenadier-Regiment 11 in the 14.Infanterie-Division, also on the Eastern Front. He was promoted Generalmajor on April 1st 1943. He followed a course for Divisions Kommandeur between July 26th and August 21st 1943. After this he was placed with special assignment in the Staff of Generalfeldmarschall Gerd von Rundstedt, the Commanding Officer in the West. From November 29th 1943 until December 23rd he was placed with the Wehrkreis V in Stuttgart.

    From January 5th 1944 he commanded Narvik in Norway, where he stayed until the end of the war. Between September 27th 1945 and May 17th 1948 he was in a British POW camp. He was transferred to the famous Island Farm Special Camp 11 on January 9th 1946. On May 12th 1948 he was transferred to Camp 186 to be repatriated.
