Biography

Karel Weber was born on January 12th 1922 in Amsterdam. In 1941 he volunteered with the German Waffen-SS. He was placed with the SS-Freiwilligen Standarte "Nordwest" te Hamburg on April 26th 1941. This unit became a part of the Vrijwilligers Legioen Nederland in September 1941. The legion saw action from January 1942 near Leningrad and in June of that year Weber was injured. After his sick leave he was rejected for active duty and placed as prisoners guard with a SS-Totenkopf Strumbann. Due to the conditions of the war he was send into active duty again in the end of 1944 with the 5./SS-Regiment.83/34.SS-Freiwillige-Grenadier Division "Landstorm Nederland". His rank wad here SS-Unterscharführer. On May 12th 1945 he was made prisoner of war end interned in the Camp Harskamp. As an active veteran he received the Veterans decorations Ulrichsberg Ehrenzeichen in Gold and Medaille Heimat und Volk. He died on June 3rd 2006.
