Awarded for his actions during the fighting of the 28. Jäger-Division near Samoschje in late January 1945, as part of Kampfgruppe Schuldt. During this time he took over the leadership of the 7. Kompanie on his own initiative after all its officers had become casualties, and in this capacity was able to master a difficult combat situation.
