Oberleutnant (1st Lieutenant)

Awarded for his actions on the Adriatic front (near Rimini) in September 1944. After his Batterie had shot off its last rounds, and upon learning that some nearby infantry could no longer hold their hilltop position at Montescudo for much longer, Kurz decided to take the defense of his position into his own hands. With 8 artillerymen and an MG, he defended his position long enough for reinforcements to arrive, even resorting to calling down artillery fire on his own positions to do so.
