The following wartime excerpt describes why Meusgeier received the Knight’s Cross…

“Oberfeldwebel Fritz Messfeier… was awarded the Knight’s Cross on the 15.11.1941 while serving as a Kompanie HQ squad leader in a Panzer-Jäger-Abteilung. He forced an enemy armoured car to surrender, overran Bolshevik covering parties at Mironowka and knocked out 10 enemy tanks north of Nowomoskowsk (he heavily damaged an additional 4).”
