Awarded for his command of the Heeres-Unteroffizier-Schule Jauer during the defense of Steinaus in early 1945. Ordered into position on 20.01.1945, it took until the 23. to prepare the unit for its mission of defending the city. It did not take long for these defenses to be tested, as the Soviets launched their attack the following day and were able to penetrate the outer defensive ring on the east bank of the Oder. The NCO candidates were however able to tie down strong enemy forces until the evening of the 03.02.1945, after which they were able to break through successfully to the German lines as ordered after they’d run out of ammunition.

762nd Award.
Awarded posthumously.
