Biography

Hugo Heller was born on 12th February 1915 in Rahe, Ostfriesland, Germany. He volunteered for military service in the mid-1930s and became a member of Panzer-Pionier-Bataillon 38. Hugo participated in campaigns in Poland, France, and the Balkans from 1939 to 1941. He was transferred to the Russian front in September 1941 and fought in the battles of Moscow and Kursk. His unit returned to France in 1944 for rehabilitation after having suffered heavy losses in the Soviet Union.
He died during a bombing raid at the Les Aubrais train station near Orleans during the night of 19th and 20th May 1944.

Hugo Heller lies buried at the German cemetery at Fort-de-Malmaison, France, Plot 4, Row 27, Grave 1077.
