Biography

George Joseph Simonelli was a radio gunner for the Army Air Corps 483rd Bombardment Group, 15th Air Force. His plane was a B-17 called "Mizpah". He received an Air Medal with 3 oak clusters for 41 combat missions. Mizpah was shot down on July 14, 1944. George Joseph Simonelli was among those who survived. He was captured and taken prisoner. He would later be liberated in May 1945. In 1988 at a ceremony at Joint Base McGuire / Dix in New Jersey, George received the "Prisoner of War" medal.
