"Comrade Petukov was the first to express his desire to cross the Dnieper river. After he crossed the Dnieper river with three comrades, they entered into battle with superior enemy forces, showing valor and courage. Thanks to self-sacrificing steadfastness and devotion to his homeland, Comrade Petukhov made way for the remaining fighters of the unit. Continuing the battle for the bridgehead at the crossing, Comrade Petukhov inspired though his example the other comrades.. The enemy was pushed away.

For showing courage, merit and loyalty to his Motherland, Comrade Petukhov is worthy of the title of Hero of the Soviet Union."
