"In the attack on ABALTI VILLAGE in the face of extremely heavy fire he took his platoon through the left of the Village into the open fields beyond. His platoon doubled across the open to a fold in the ground on his right and the sunken road on his left. While his Bren guns brought heavy fire to bear on the enemy guns he, with three men advanced along the sunken road to the flank of the M.G.'s. Under extremely heavy fire from the other light automatic he rushed the gun in flank taking it and 17 Italians. One of the men with him was killed and another was wounded during this episode. On many previous occasions he has shown the same dash and fine powers of leadership."

ABLE FEATURE. EAST MAYU RANGE
During the first three days of the ABLE Action A/Major Knox, commanding "C" Company lead his Company with the greatest determination and skill. His Company were the first to reach the high ground overlooking the BUTHIDAUNG - MAUNGDAW road. During the advance in spite of being out of touch with Battalion HQ he pushed on until the objective was reached. He was then able to send guides back to lead the remainder at the Battalion on to the objective.

12th Feb. 1944
AWLANBYIN
On the 12th February - 1944 A/Major Knox was ordered to take his company to carry out an attack on the EAST AWLANBYIN feature. During the approach march the company bumped into an enemy party, which it was subsequently proved were a raiding party on the gums. The company immediately engage the enemy and led by A/Major Knox inflicted heavy casualties on the party and drove them off. During this action A/Major Knox was seriously wounded.

During the whole period this officer has displayed the greatest courage and powers of leadership and has been an outstanding example to all who have served with him."
