Schack led his reinforced Regiment deep into the rear of hostile forces and thus triggered the collapse of the Soviet front in this area. His personal conduct in this battle was crucial for the German success here. After 8 days of battle, during which Schack’s Regiment destroyed 32 Soviet tanks, Salla was in German hands.
