Krzyz Zaslugi

The Polski Komitet Wyzwolenia Narodowego (Polish Committee for National Liberation) re-established the Krzyz Zaslugi (Cross of Merit) as a civil medal for bravery. On February 17th, 1960 this was confirmed by the government of the Polish Peoples Republic. The variation with swords was not taken over.

The common decoration was continued with three grades, gold, silver and bronze, and could be awarded for merit in work and social activities. The gold and silver variation could be awarded twice to one and the same person, while the bronze decoration could only be awarded once. Between 1944 and 1992, the end of the Peoples Republic, a total of 3.541.694 crosses were awarded.
