Spanish Campaign Medals

The "Spanish Campaign Medal" was instituted to be awarded to military personnel who had taken part in the Spanish-American War. There were two basis variations of the decoration, an Army and a Navy variation. The Navy variation had two different variations, one for Naval personnel and one for US Marine Corps personnel.

At first the medal was placed on a gold-red striped ribbon. In 1913 the color was changed after a request of Spain. The ribbon resembled the Spanish flag. The color red was replaced with blue.
