CALEHILL 4   Lt. D.G. Ryan (Grenadier Guards) L.O. 'G' having been sick on leave since 16 May 44 is struck off the strength of this Unit on being down-graded to C 3 for 2 years.
8   The Bde now comes under S.E.C.O. for all purposes except Order of Battle and reserve Exfor. Employed on operational reserve S.E.C.O. and under East Kent District for administration and discipline.
15   The first pilotless planes came overhead during the night. No damage or cas.
20   Bde H.Q. and Bde Sigs. come on to six hours notice to move as from 2359 hrs. Appendix 'A'
22   The Bde Comdr accompanied Major General E.G. Miles C.B. D.S.O. M.C. Comdr East Kent District on a tour of three battalions and the Fwd Del Sqn.
24   At 0615 hrs Tk Bde Wksps R.E.M.E. received a direct hit from pilotless plane which was shot down by one of our fighters. The plane fall on the Nissen huts in which the men were sleeping and all the huts were completely destroyed. Considerable damage was done to property and stores and a certain number of vehicles were superficially damaged. There were fifty one (51) fatal casualties and 9 O.Rs. and 1 Officer were admitted to hospital some in a serious condition. The following is a list of the trades of personnel who were killed.
28   The three bns Tk Bde Wksps and 229 R.A.S.C. Coy come on to six hours notice to move as from 2359 hrs. The Fwd Del Sqn and Tk Tp Wksps come under separate command for the purpose of move.
29   The new Bde signs arrived. Specimen sign see Appendix I.
30   Blacksmiths 4, Coachtrimmers 2, Hammermen 2, Turners 3, Carpenters 1, Welders 4, Dvr Mechs 7, Storemen Vehicle 3, Fitters 8, Drivers IC 5, Vehicle Mechs 8, General Duties 3, Sheet Metal Worker 1.
30   As S.E.C.O. is now our only source of information regarding the present Continental operations ; the Bde I.O. or L.O. 'I' have been making regular weekly visits in order to keep everyone in the picture as regards our progress and the German dispositions.
