During the fighting near Feodosia in the winter of 1941-42, Karl Kraft launched a bold thrust against a group of retreating Soviet forces after he had fended off their attempted counterattack. In doing so he and his men seized a hill east of Bajratsch which would be of great importance for the continuation of the attack of the Armeekorps. From this position it was possible for the Germans to keep Feodosia under continuous bombardment.

For this act Kraft would be decorated with the Knight’s Cross.
Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes
