Awarded for his actions during the Battle of the Bulge. On the 30.12.1944 the US 11th Armored Division was involved in attacks Chenogne, and fierce fighting ensued. In the area of the Führer-Begleit-Brigade the Germans claimed to have destroyed 21 tanks and 20 armoured cars on this day, with the Zug commanded by Oberwachtmeister Krieg playing a major role in the battle. For his personal and leadership achievements during this action Krieg would be decorated with the Knight’s Cross.
