Biography

Gordon Arthur Yeo was born on 9 July 1922 in Barry Dock, Glamorgan. He was the son of Arthur and Ada Yeo.

In 1941, he joined the RAF with the goal of becoming a pilot. However, he was initially sent to Elementary Flying School in Canada and later qualified as a gunner. Following his training, he was assigned to the 1660 Conversion Unit at RAF Swinderby and then to 57 Squadron at Scampton in mid-March 1943. On 25 March, he was transferred to 617 Squadron in preparation for the Dams Raid.

On May 16, 1943 at 9:47 PM, the Avro Lancaster III ED887 of the 617 Squadron took off in Lincolnshire to take part in the attack on the Möhne Dam. At 2:58 am the Lancaster was shot down by German anti-aircraft fire and crashed in the surf near Castricum.

The entire crew died.
