Thomas Henry Frank Kimberley was already a renowned cameraman before the war. He joined the Royal Army Service Corps on 26 January 1940 and was part of the British Expeditionary Force in France. On 21 August 1940, he was discharged from the army as a corporal because his services were no longer required.
In 1943, he joined the RAFVR and, from 5 March of that year, made 35 flights over occupied Europe as a cameraman and sometimes air gunner. He left the RAF in 1945 with the rank of Flight Lieutenant and spent the rest of his working life pursuing a career in the film industry.
