Biography

17 year old Matrose Horst Berger served with the K-Flottille 361 at Anzio and on the Normandy coast in 1944, operating manned "Neger" torpedoes with great success.
After participating in attacks at Anzio, Berger and his unit was at Normandy where he participated in the sinking of the minesweepers "HMS Magic" and "HMS Cato" on July 6.
It was for this action at Normandy that Berger recieved the German Cross in Gold from Admiral Heyse, commanding Admiral of the Kleinkampfverbände, and he was also promoted to Bootsmannsmaat.
Bootsmannsmaat Berger survived the war.
