Awarded for his role in the relief of Arnswalde. On 15.02.1945, after the battalion commander (Hauptmann Störck) had been severely wounded, Schulte took charge of the unit for the final push to Arnswalde. He would eventually enter the city with 10 SPWs under his command, thus bringing the mission of the battalion to a successful conclusion. The result was the rescue of the hard pressed Kampfgruppe Voigt and 7000 civilians that had been trapped in the city.
