Wilhelm Berlin was shot down three times. The first time in his Messerschmitt Bf 110E-1, Werknr. 4062 near Novavola in Russia. During this he and his Funker Obefeldwebel Josef Masson managed to make an emergency landing. Although wounded he was able to continue his work. Later he was shot down near Sareema again with a Messerschmitt Bf 110E-1, BC+HN together with his Funker Caspar Stein. THis time he was send home for sickleave. On October 10th, 1943 he was shot down nearj Münster by a Republic P-47 Thunderbolt of the USAAF. Berlin this time flew a Messerschmitt Me 410A-1, Werknr 420025, 2N+AD. His Bordfunker was Leutnant Heinz Wulf. Wulf and Berlin were killed in this event.
