The German Nachrichtenbüro published the following report on the 26.03.1945 concerning the award of the Knight's Cross to Generalmajor Sydow...

“At the suggestion of the Supreme Commander of the Luftwaffe, Reichsmarschall Göring, the Führer has awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross to Generalmajor Otto Sydow, commander of a Flak division.

Generalmajor Otto Sydow… is an outstanding troop commander. With his soldiers following his excellent example, he has achieved great successes in the heavy defensive battles in Serbia and Hungary through his bravery and personal devotion to duty."
