Awarded for his outstanding leadership of the 2. Räumbootsflottille. The following press article (dated 15.06.1942) provides a summary of the successes that led him to receiving the Knight’s Cross…

“Korvettenkapitän Jost Brökelmann has achieved the following successes with his Räumbootsflottille: 1 British MTB sunk, 2 bombers shot down. Furthermore, 65 heavy armed Soviets aboard a sailing vessel were taken prisoner, while the sailing vessel itself (loaded with weapons and ammunition) was sunk. Under his leadership the Flottille also swept a total of 727 naval mines of all types. Brökelmann especially distinguished himself while carrying out the extremely difficult task of escorting valuable transport vessels. He demonstrated lightning-swift decisiveness and tireless endurance during numerous combat engagements with enemy MTBs. He had a decisive share in the capture of the Baltic Islands and the victorious Channel Dash.”
