Biography

Paul Fenn entered service in 1936 with the Heer, but changed to the Kriegsmarine in 1937. He served as Kommandeur Marine Flak-Regiment 9, as Oberquartiermeister with MOK Ostsee and as Kommandeur 1. Marine-Flak-Brigade. He was Prisoner-of-war between May 9th, 1945 and January 21st, 1946.

The following excerpt from the Deutsche Nachrichtenbüro, dated 27.03.1945, describes why Fenn was awarded the Knight’s Cross…

“At the recommendation of the Supreme Commander of the Kriegsmarine, Großadmiral Dönitz, the Führer has awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross to the commander of the 9. Marine-Flak-Regiment, Kapitän zur See Paul Fenn. He has outstandingly distinguished himself in the heavy fighting in West Prussia… With his unit’s destruction of 75 tanks, 63 assault guns, and other heavy weapons (including 33 aircraft), Kapitän zur See Fenn has heavily contributed to the defensive successes in West Prussia.”
