On 23rd January, 1945, Sergeant Holleman was the captain of a formation of Mitchell aircraft which delivered an attack against an enemy position. During this mission, Sergeant Holleman's aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire and he sustained a wound which rendered his left arm useless. Despite the loss of much blood Sergeant Holleman maintained his position and delivered his attack accurately. It was not until he had set his aircraft on a course for base that he revealed his wounds. Throughout, Sergeant Holleman displayed excellent airmanship, courage and devotion to duty."
