From the end of August to the middle of November 1944 the Allies attempted to break through the front of the LXXVI. Panzer-Korps near Rimini with three major offensives. However in the first four weeks alone they lost 651 tanks according to German claims. The German front was pushed back slowly, but did not break. Herr would be awarded the Swords to his Knight’s Cross for his prevention of all Allied breakthrough attempts in these battles.
