Biography

Commander of the Tank repair company of the SS 'Das Reich' division in late 1943, he was instrumental in recovering and repairing the divisional's tanks. Working calmly during night and day, he succeeded in bringing all the damaged tanks (65 Panthers and a few Tigers) back over the Dniepr for safety. Recovery of tanks sometimes took place beyond the front line held by the rearguards that were covering the retreat and SS Hauptsturmführer Ennsberger had to organize all-round defence while doing so.
