11.1940: volunteered for the Panzerwaffe
12.1940: transferred for training in the Panzer-Regiment 8 - 10. Panzer-Division in Suippes, France
02.1941: transferred to the 15. Panzer-Division in preparation for Africa in Baumholder
01.05.1941: campaign in Africa, Egypt, Helfaya Pass, Sollum Battle
15.06.1941: his panzer was hit - retreated towards El Agheila and Gazala
1942: took part in the assaults on Tobruk and El Alamein then retreated towards Tunesia - 26 tanks destroyed during his campaign in Africa
Flown with his crew to Italy with a Ju52 to reform a new Panzer-Abteilung 8
07.1943: sent to Russia, 85 tanks destroyed and 1 soviet brigade stopped with only 3 Sturmgeschützen (StuG)
28.02.1945: WIA - sent to Lazarett in Schwäbisch Gmünd
