The following newspaper excerpt (dated 17.10.1941) describes why Rohwer received the Knight’s Cross…

“Up until now Leutnant Detlev Rohwer has achieved 28 aerial victories (including 15 bombers) over the course of numerous aerial battles. Whilst flying ground attack missions he once destroyed 6 Soviet aircraft that were parked at their airfield, and despite strong AA fire he has also shot up multiple enemy tanks and motorized columns.”
