Biography

Attila von Debschitz was born on 9th November 1920 in Nieder-Kunzendorf. In 1939 he left school in Breslau and joined the Offizierschule in Wünsdorf, as member of the Panzer-Regiment 31.
During the Second World War he took part in the campaigns in France. After this followed the action in the Balcan, Greece and on Crete. Eventually he was ordered to take part in the Afrika-Korps, but when the campaign at the Eastern Front started he was ordered there as Zugführer. On 1st April 1941 he was promoted to Leutnant. In February 1942 he was wounded. After recovering he reoprted ot the 22.Infanterie-Division at Crete. In July 1943 he was again send to the Soviet-Union as Kompanieführer in a Panzer-Regiment. On 31st December 1943 he was again wounded but was active already in February 1944 and was promoted to Oberleutnant. In Ocotber 1944 he was wounded once again. After three days hospital he rejoined his unit at the front to be wounded again after two days. In spite of his wounds he stayed on the front. With his unit he then took part in the Battles at Minsk. Here he and his unit destroyed 16 Soviet T 34's on 7th November 1944. Eventually he was to be send to Wünsdorf as a techre, but the situation at the front demanded all officers to be active. After battle at the Oderfront he was wounded transferred to the Waffen-SS and promoted to SS-Hauptsturmführer. In April 1945 he was active against the American forces at Paderborn and then with the Begleitbataillon Reichsführer-SS in Berlin. After a failed attempt to break out, he was captured by the Soviet forces on 13th May 1945. After being delivered to the Poles and being beaten, he escaped to Messchede.

After the Second World War Attila held jobs like Horseman and truckdriver and in 1947 he started an independent car rental company. On 11th August 1950 he married Irmgard Diedrich. In 1953 he became the shooters king at the Schützengemeinschaft Meschede Nord e.V.. In 1985 he joined the Bundeswehr, but beceause he was for a short period with the Waffen-SS, only was appointed as Oberleutnant. Attila von Debschitz served with a Panzer-Bataillon in Hemer and Lingen and was transferred to MAD Gruppe 1 in 1960 as Dezernent 4. On 1st April 1973 he was forces to resign as result of his illness and left as Hauptmamann.
On 11th Janury 1976 Irmgard died. On 23rd July 1976 he remarried with Erike Kersten.
