Biography

Karl Schmid was part of the Sturm-Abteilung Koch and later the 13. Kompanie, IV. Bataillon, Luftlande-Sturm-Regiment 1. In February 1943 he transferred with the IV. Bataillon to the Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 6 as its II. Bataillon. Later he transferred to 13. / Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 11. In 1945 he was send for recovery and rest to Ascherleben and Torgau, after which he was taken POW in Herfeld in April 1945.
Certain is he served at Maleme, Crete in 1941, Russia in 1942, at Monte Rotondo in 1943 and in Italy in 1944, where he earned his DKiG.
