Pierre de Hauteclocque, son of a Lieutenant-Colonel who died in World War One and a nephew of General Leclerc, participated in the Norwegian campaign.
June 1940 he and his unit were evacuated from Brest to England.
Under the pseudonym "Pierre de Rennepont" he participated in the battle for Koufra in Lybia and later in the battle of El Alamein. He was to stay in the Middle East for the rest of the war.
After the war he was posted in Madagascar, Morocco and Indo-China. He retired in 1958 in the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.
