Biography

Günter Keller started his training for U-boat service with training group 37a in April 1937. He served as Beobachter with the Küstenflieger from October 1939 until July 1943. From May 30th, 1944 he commanded "U 683" which was newly commissioned. The Type VIIc u-boat was eventually reported missing in action since March 12th, 1945 when it was reported sunk by the British. However it seems to be the British at that moment attacke the wreck of "U 247". The contact with "U 683" was already lost from February 20th, 1945, south-west of Ireland or in the English Channel according to research (FDS/NHB, December 1989). There were no survivors.
