    Biography

    Hendrik Nieuwkoop lived in Tilburg. He was the son of Adam Nieuwkoop (painter, March 24th, 1900, Aalburg, the Netherlands) and servant Johanna Juinen (May 9th, 1903, Ammerzoden, the Netherlands). He was not married and worked as a mechanic and he was in hiding to evade having to work in Germany. He was betrayed and arrested. On October 27th, 1944 he was executed at Camp Westerbork, together with eight others.

    De war graves commission based his date of death on certificates and stated it on October 27th, 1944. The memorial monument at the cemetery Esserveld in Groningen, the Netherlands, states as date of death October 20th, 1944.

    Nieuwkoop was cremated. Early November 1945 his ashes were interred at the Esserveld cemetery at Plot S.
