Biography

Shot on 24-3-1945 in the concentration camp in Riesa Germany.

Lived in Groningen, 2e Hunzestraat 14a. Son of carpenter/contractor Tjabbo de Groot (November 11, 1889, Winschoten) and Wupgina Molema (June 30, 1892, Winschoten). Married maid Fenna IJzer, daughter of Jacoba IJzer, on September 3, 1936, in Winschoten. The couple had two children (Tjabbo and Willem). Waiter. De Groot was executed by firing squad, as his gravestone states (1*). His father, a member of the Communist Party of the Netherlands, distributed the illegal communist newspaper Noorderlicht and managed the administration of an unemployment fund. Senior was arrested on April 23, 1941. He was successively imprisoned in the Scholtenhuis in Groningen, the prison in Scheveningen, and the concentration camps of Amersfoort, Neuengamme, and Dachau, where he died on September 3, 1942. (1*) The War Graves Foundation also indicates that De Groot was executed.

Buried in the Municipal Cemetery in Winschoten, section IX, number 195.
