Biography

André van Beveren was first arrested for singing nationalist Dutch songs on October 10th, 1940. On June 22nd, 1941 he was again arrested in Amsterdam, this time for selling illegal pamphlets. At first he was held prisoner in the police station Euterpestraat in Amsterdam, but was then transported to Camp Schoorl. From there it went via Camp Amersfoort to Camp Neuengamme where he was held as political prisoner. On August 1st, 1942, André van Beveren was transferred to Konzentrationslager Dachau. Here he was placed in the Aussenlager Gendorf. By the end of the Second World War he was forced on a so called death march and on April 29th, 1945 managed to hide himself in a corn field and shortly after that found by American Troops.
After a long travel by himself he managed to reach the Netherlands again and started working with the Politieke Opsporingsdienst (P.O.D.) on July 18th, 1945.
