"Arakan 1945.On the 31st January 1945 on Hill 170 near Kangaw Pte Allen was no.2 on the a Bren Gun of the forwsard platoonwhich was ebing heavily attacked.Early in the action he was completely deafened by a grenade burst,but he stayed with his gun until the no.1 was killed and the gunp put out of action. Then on his own accord he moved around under heavy fire taking the place on several Brens whose no.2's had been killed or wounded. Finally,although wounded, when a Pte was seriously wounded by his side, he carried him on his back despite heavy MMG fire to a place of safety."
